The artist emerges?

// July 19th, 2005 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Okay, so programming is and has been very interesting to me, but I am truly intrigued by the art side of game development also. I’m at a crossroad, I guess. I have never been an artist by any definition of the word, but I really like the idea of being able to put my thoughts on paper for others to see. This brings me to the design aspect. From what I understand, which is not much in the perspective of the world, game designers need to understand a little of both of these areas, but is not excellent in either. I know that some good programmers may have designed good games, and maybe even a good artist has done the same, though I know of none, so there is always an exception. Games in the past have been a lot about the programmers, and that’s not always a good thing. Neither one can do it alone, so in comes the designer to hold the idea together and keep each team progressing. I think that’s me. Being unemployed now, I have a lot of spare time and I would really like to get my art skills to be something I can use for storyboard type of pre-viz work, but I would also like to know enough about the programming to get a game together also. I’ve talked to a lot of professionals, and they all say that you can’t be a master of both because they both take years of practice to master. I want to be the exception. I want to be a master game designer, and that means learning both sides of the biz. That’s my dream anyway. My biggest problem is being lazy. I once heard a man say that laziness is the sister of talent. I hope that’s true, and I hope I can overcome my laziness to become great. You may ask what happens if I don’t get it together, I’ll tell you. NOTHING!! Absolutely nothing. Will happen and that’s what I need to avoid unless I want to make a habit of saying “Would you like to super-size that?” Not my idea of greatness.

More Fuck!

So it’s been a long time. I have not gotten any pics of my new car. I have not gotten a camera phone either. What I did get was fired… yep from my job. First time for me. It sucks. It fucking sucks.

Fuck! I smashed my car!

// February 5th, 2005 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

I’m really pissed! I smashed my car on my way home from school last week. Some guy was road raging on me and I was stupid. I let him cut me off and I ended up hitting the cement wall median on 494 going about 60-70 mph. Not a recommended stunt. I’m fine, but the car is a total loss. I got a new car. I really like it. I got another Civic, but this is a ’01 Honda Civic EX. Power everything, air, cruise, sunroof, and a Kenwood CD player. It has 48000 miles and it’s blue. I paid a little more then $10k for it. So far it’s a great deal! I love it and my wife is really jealous. She is trying to think of anyway she can get a new car too. HaHa I hope to put some pictures of it up soon.

P.S.

I am in the process of getting a camera phone, and then I will start a moblog. I can’t wait.

Well, if I’m going to talk about me it could be a short blog, but we will see. I am currently 24yo, married, a step-dad, full-time employee, part-time student. In a nutshell.

I have been married for almost a month now. It’s great, but not much has changed. I figured it would be that way. We’ve known each other for over 4 years and have lived together for 2.

I work for one of the bigger e-commerce providers in customer service. This summer I will be employed there for 2 years. In this company I am a senior in customer service, and working there for two tears makes you someone who made it through many “structural” changes.

I have an AAS in computer programming. I am working on a second AAS in “Computer Programming and Game Development.” This just means I want to make video games. I have had this interest since I was very young. I met a group of guys from school that were interested in putting a game together. This is what I am working on now. We are trying to design something that is marketable for whatever it may bring us.
